Located in Grey Point, the Museum of Anthropology houses a magnificent collection of First Nations artwork. After the first stage of the current renovation all exhibits, including totem poles, canoes and contemporary artworks, are on display in the new wing.
Highlights include Bill Reid's sculpture, The Raven and the First Men, which is depicted on the Canadian 20-dollar bill.
The stunning Modernist structure, created by local architect Arthur Erickson, is undergoing extensive renovations, resulting in a 50% size increase by 2010. The new wing reopened on 8 March, 2009, but the Multiversity Galleries and the major temporary exhibition gallery remain under construction until the project as a whole is complete. The grand relaunch of all of the new spaces is planned for 23 January, 2010.
