Tel Aviv - Event

Tel Aviv's Eretz museum complex traces more than 3000 years of culture through artefacts found on the site and around the country. Incorporating a planetarium and an extensive research library, it is amongst the country's most important museums.

The museum was constructed around the extensive archaeological site of Tel Kasile. Tel translates as "mound" and the ancient Tel is in the centre of the museum's complex. The mound was built up by thousands of years of continuous occupation and has been excavated for many decades.

Resembling a park, the museum's collections are housed in a dozen separate pavilions, each being a museum in its own right, dealing with a different aspect of Israeli archaeology and ethnography.

The museum traces the history of glass making in the Glass Pavilion, from the earliest examples through to the Middle Ages. Various currencies and a vast coin collection can be viewed in the Kadman Numismatic Pavilion and the Ceramics Pavilion displays an extensive collection of ancient and traditional pottery. Exhibits sourced from the Timna Mines (famous as "King Solomon's Mines") can be found in the Nechustan Pavilion. Guide maps are available to help the visitor find their way around this unusual layout.
