Gruelling doesn't quite cover it: the X-Alps adventure race sees 30 professional athletes take on 818km of alpine terrain, racing from Salzburg to Monaco. With only a paraglider and a pair of hiking boots allowed, it's not for the faint-hearted.

The event is broadcast online or you could be there at the start and finishing lines to offer moral support.

Because of just how hard this race is, you have to be selected to take part and you must apply in a team of two, not on your own. If you think you are experienced, qualified (and hard) enough, contact the organisers for more details.

Event details can change. Please check with the organisers that the event is happening before making travel arrangements.
