New Year's, known as St Sylvester's Day in the Czech Republic, is always an exciting time to be in Prague. Celebrations start simmering several days in advance and entail fireworks, classical concerts, clubbing, river cruises and more.
Open-air New Year celebrations cluster round Wenceslas Square, the Old Town Square and Zelezná, Rytírská, Na Mustku, Melantrichova and Havelská streets, featuring fireworks, stalls selling bottles of champagne and huge crowds from all over Europe dancing about and climbing the public statues.
For some romance there are short cruises on the Vltava, while cultural entertainment takes place at the Rudolfinum and at the Prague State Opera among many other venues. Clubbers can spend their New Year's Eve in one of Prague's excellent night spots, such as Roxy, Radost F/X and Archa.
Event details can change. Please check with the organisers that the event is happening before making travel arrangements.
