The Sunday after Easter is known as Domingo del Ángel (Angel Sunday) in Mallorca, a day celebrated in the capital, Palma de Mallorca, with a procession, blessings and plenty of traditional food.
The fiesta dates back to the early 15th century, when it was known as the Festividad del Santo Custodio de Palma. It was celebrated through the 15th and 16th centuries with a procession and blessing of bread for the poor. After that the custom seemed to disappear, only to be revived in 1982 under its present name.
Today it is one of the biggest fiestas of the year, starting in the early hours of the morning. Hundreds of people walk from the town hall to the Castillo de Bellver, where there are musicians and people dressed in exaggerated costumes. The food comes out, the music and dancing begins and there are special games for children.
