The Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Florida, is one of the world's premier vacation destinations, with entertainment on offer for all ages and tastes. Magic Kingdom was the first part of the resort established, and remains perhaps the most famous.
Divided into seven exciting themed areas (Main Street USA, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland and Mickey's Toontown Fair), Magic Kingdom offers the classic theme park experience. It's been often imitated, but never bettered.
Topping the bill in terms of thrills, the futuristic Tomorrowland boasts not only Space Mountain, but also The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, in which a petrifying beastie from another world will breath down your neck... Don't worry though, there's plenty of things for the younger kids to see and do - including the chance to meet Mickey Mouse and all his friends in Mickey's Toontown Fair.
"It's kind of fun to do the impossible..."
- Walt Disney
Before his death in 1966, Walt Disney purchased 28,000 acres near Orlando, Florida. Although a Disneyland park had already been established in Anaheim, California in 1955, only the Florida site allowed the space needed to build Walt's dream world. Walt Disney World opened on 1 October, 1971, and included a Magic Kingdom theme park like Disneyland, as well as hotels, golf courses, campgrounds, and shopping villages. It has since expanded into four distinct theme parks, each of which could stand up on its own to rival any other world-class attraction, plus a whole number of other amenities and attractions, all under the prestigious banner of the company most famous for a certain mouse.
