From humble beginnings in 1988, the unconventional Winter Tollwood Festival now draws a million visitors each year to its festival tents on the Theresienwiese. With a focus on cabaret, circus and variety, it is known for its quality and originality.
Despite its huge success, it has maintained the charm of an original, multicultural celebration, with a mixture of international stars and local heroes from Bavaria, Austria and some northern German regions.
Top chefs offer first-rate dining and a Christmas market provides an alternative to the markets in the city centre.
