The annual Elephanta Festival of Indian classical dance is held at the Elephanta caves near Mumbai. Visitors can admire the grandeur of the caves' sculptures before enjoying an evening of dance performances and traditional food sold at stalls.
The festival is organised by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and features musicians and dancers. The main cave at Elephanta is specially illuminated for the event, justifying the trip in itself, as the caves are normaly closed to visitors after sunset. A view of the central sculpture, the Mahesh Murti, illuminated at night is truly spectacular.
Event details can change. Please check with the organisers that the event is happening before making travel arrangements.
