Composer and conductor Ryan Wigglesworth appears in both roles at the Barbican Hall with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Flanking the world première of his of his vocal work Augenlieder, with soprano Claire Booth, are rare Beethoven overtures and Stravinsky masterpieces.
It's an intriguing programme of layers - just like a club sandwich. Topping and tailing proceedings is Stravinsky - both his Symphonies of Wind Instruments and Symphony in C. Next layer in are Beethoven's Overtures Leonore No 2 and Namensfeier (Name Day for Emperor Francis II of Austria).
The orchestral song-cycle Augenlieder is a BBC commission and follows Wigglesworth's first Proms commission The Genesis of Secrecy, which received its world première last July.
