A source of artistic inspiration since 1987, the International Istanbul Biennial welcomes artists, critics and curators from all over the world to exchange ideas and evaluate contemporary artwork. Exhibits, meetings and seminars are held at several venues across the city.
The theme of the Biennial in 2009 is inspired by What Keeps Mankind Alive, a song Bertolt Brecht wrote 80 years ago. According to the organisers, Brecht's work offers the foundations for an examination of artistic production in today's capitalist climate.
Full details of the 2009 event can be found on the Istanbul Festival website towards the end of summer.
Event details can change. Please check with the organisers that the event is happening before making travel arrangements.
