Photo by Pelin Erdoğan, courtesy of Adel AbdessemedThe theme of the Biennial in 2009 is inspired by What Keeps Mankind Alive, a song Bertolt Brecht wrote 80 years ago. According to the organisers, Brecht's work offers the foundations for an examination of artistic production in today's capitalist climate.

Full details of the 2009 event can be found on the Istanbul Festival website towards the end of summer.
