The World Press Photo exhibition heads for the Congress Centre in Innsbruck. In 2009, 196 award-winning photographs from across the globe capture the most powerful, moving and at times disturbing images of the year.
The World Press Photo is widely recognised as one of the world's most prestigious photography competitions. Each year leading professional news photographers enter, with work by the winners and runners-up going into a large touring exhibition that visits over 40 countries across the world.
The subjects explored range from the shocking to the sublime, the beautiful to the barely believable, and have in the past included war-torn Iraq, street dancers in Paris, fans and footballers at the German World Cup, the American Ms Senior Sweetheart Pageant, and the hunting grounds of the Leopard seal.
