The biennial Europalia Festival (established in 1969) spans the whole of Belgium, with many key events taking place in Brussels. These include a series of concerts, film screenings, literary events, exhibitions and theatrical and dance performances.
The name Europalia comes from the contraction of Europe and Opalia, the Roman festival that celebrated a rich harvest. The festival is organised by Europalia International Foundation, a non-profit association based in Brussels.
In 2009, China is the guest of honour. Beyond the clichés and the media coverage, the festival invites visitors to delve into the complex Chinese psyche with a stunning programme.
Event details can change. Please check with the organisers that the event is happening before making travel arrangements.
