You probably won't be able to stand up all the way - in fact you're not even meant to try - but body-surfing the gorge below the Victoria Falls is the coolest adventure activity on the block.

It's just you, a lifejacket, a wetsuit and a bodyboard against the fearsome rapids of the Zambezi Gorge. After an introduction to the skills and techniques of this bizarre sport, it's time to plunge into the water and the crazy headlong descent begins.

It's an incredible rush, as you feel yourself surrounded by the might of the river, buffeted by the powerful currents and rushed through rapids. You are able to navigate a bit and there are some interesting techniques to practise. You can surf on the standing waves caused by battling currents, or you can go in for what is known in the trade as "squirting". It sounds rude but it involves angling your board so that you are pushed just below the surface of the water. If you master it, it is like flying underwater - you feel as helpless and as free as the thousands of air bubbles that surround you in headlong flight down the river.
