The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, dubbed the eighth wonder of the world, was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. The area encompasses the world's largest unbroken caldera (volcanic crater) and the site of some of the oldest hominid remains (at Oldupai Gorge).
Coupled with its natural habitat for savannah wildlife - zebras, wildebeest, lions and black rhino - let alone the homeland of the Masaai, this is a great destination for Tanzanian travellers. Camp on the rim and explore both the crater and the conservation area beyond for a truly amazing African adventure.
