Each year Richterswil on Lake Zürich goes back to its organic roots. The Räbechilbi Richterswil, Europe's largest turnip festival, celebrates the humble vegetable with a fair dedicated to the Brassica rapa and a huge illuminated parade.
If you thought that only pumpkins make good lanterns, think again. Tons of carved white turnips and thousands of candles illuminate Richterswil on the second Saturday of November. The festival was entered into the Guinness Book of Records in 1998 for its world-breaking statistics.
Thousands of lanterns and illuminated houses glitter along the parade route, and as well as a wide variety of music and entertainment, there's always the odd turnip if you're hungry...
