Ibiza Yoga is based in the beautifully unspoilt northeast of the island, well out of earshot of the nightclubs. It offers week-long yoga holidays for those seeking mind and body nourishment, but who don't want to follow a punishing regime.
A group of experienced teachers lead courses aimed both at beginners and the more advanced. Breathing exercises (pranayama) form the foundation of the practice, followed by the traditional sequence of poses (asanas) that make up the primary series of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system. Ashtanga is an energetic and demanding style of yoga and it is recommended that all those attending the general level course should have at least one year's experience. If you are in any doubt about your level of fitness, stick to the beginner's course.
The yoga takes up three early-morning hours of each day and is carried out on a shaded roof. For the rest of the day guests are left to their own devices. The most popular activity is to take the two-minute stroll down to Benniras beach, known on the island for its sunset drumming and good vibes. Here the afternoon can easily be passed sunbathing and swimming in the sheltered bay, safe in the knowledge that the day's asanas have been practised to perfection.
Benniras beach is quite remote and if you want to get out and explore the rest of the island or take shopping trips to Ibiza Town, it's advisable to hire a car. Sant Miquel, the nearest town, is a good 45-minute walk away.
Beginner and general courses (which last from Sunday-Friday) are priced the same and include shared accommodation and breakfast/brunch. Single rooms are available at an additional cost, but spaces are limited.
