The Chennai Dance and Music Festival is a celebration of the classical music and dance of South India, featuring performances from all over the country. Venues include auditoriums, well-known temple premises and heritage bungalows.
The Chennai Dance and Music Festival, popularly known as the Margazhi Festival of Dance and Music, began in 1927 to commemorate the anniversary of the Madras Music Academy. The Tamil month of Marghazi is considered a sacred month by the Hindus and South Indian classical music has been a traditional form of worship from time immemorial. Performances include vocal and instrumental music, solo and group dance.
