There's no better place for an ice and snow sculpture competition than Harbin. The freezing temperatures provide the perfect conditions for participants to get creative with their blocks of ice.
In teams of two, the artists chisel away at two-metre square blocks of ice in the hope of winning cash prizes. The Harbin Ice and Snow Sculpture Competitions coincide with the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival to form the Harbin Ice Lantern Festival (Bingdengjie), when the Zhaolin Park transforms into a glittering wonderland constructed entirely from ice.
