The exhibition of over 100 masterpieces by Rogier van der Weyden marks the opening of Leuven's M Museum. On loan from major world collections, this is a rare opportunity to admire the works of one of the greatest Flemish Primitives.
Rogier van der Weyden is hailed as one of the most influential painter of the 15th century, along with Jan van Eyck. The former shot up to fame through his eye for detail and spot-on depiction of a wide palette of emotions to be seen on his subjects.
Born in Tournai, Rogier van der Weyden was appointed official painter of Brussels in 1435. His prestigious clients included members of royalty and the haute bourgeoisie. Often imitated, the painter's originality resonates through the centuries.
