On Remembrance Day, anniversary of the First World War Armistice (the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month), Australia remembers those who fought in the World Wars. A solemn ceremony takes place at Canberra's Australian War Memorial.
The laying of poppy wreaths by Australia's Prime Minister and the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia is an integral part of the ceremony. A single rose is also laid on the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier, while the sounding of the Last Post is followed by the traditional one minute's silence.
