The pool area is glorious and is surrounded by swaying palms, sumptuous double cabanas and plenty of sun loungers. It’s a spacious area so it’s easy to find your perfect spot – be sure to try out the submerged sunbeds. There’s a separate kids’ pool which features a central activity frame, a pirate ship and slides, as well as a fantastic water park with giant water buckets and slides – guaranteed to keep your little ones occupied. In addition, Kidsdom kids’ club (from one year and upwards) provides the perfect place for children to enjoy games, activities, crafts, workshops and themed parties, while teens have a dedicated activity programme which includes beach volleyball, snorkelling, kayaking and much more. The game room is kitted out with PlayStation, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360.

Adults have access to a fantastic fitness centre, fully equipped with resistance systems including recumbent bikes, a stair climber, elliptical and rowing machines and treadmills. There’s also an impressive range of weights and a multi-purpose room with spinning equipment. Pilates, yoga, spinning, wellness and massage classes are available, as well as private training sessions (an extra charge applies).

The YHI Spa – located at the adult-only (18 plus) sister property, Paradisus La Perla, is a vast, stunning sanctuary, featuring 14 indoor and two outdoor body and facial cabins, where an extensive menu of treatments are provided using Mexican honey, essential oils, plant products and local ingredients. Fully immerse yourself in a hot-stone treatment, soothe your body with a relaxing massage or try the unique and purifying experience of a Mayan Symphony. It combines the sounds, smells and relaxing sensations before, during and after a four-handed massage, against a backdrop of pre-Hispanic music. The spa also offers a hydromassage circuit which includes a revitalising mixed wet and dry sauna, plunge pools and whirlpools, as well as a beauty salon.

The resort has an impressive collection of restaurants and bars spread around the property, offering cuisines from around the world. Naos is the main restaurant, serving up an international buffet with show cooking stations, from early morning until late at night. You can also enjoy a smoky Latino-Mexican breakfast at The Lunch Box or head over to Celcius Grill for brunch – it’s located next to the main pool. Take a seat at the rustic Italian trattoria Cappella for a menu designed by acclaimed Chef Antonia Lofaso or stop by Tokimeku for a feast of sushi and teppanyaki dishes. There’s also a separate Tokimeku restaurant for adult-only dining.

Three rich and tantalising Mexican options await you at the resort. Mole serves contemporary Mexican cuisine with a special show cooking quesadillas area, while Blue Agave Taqueria celebrates the art of an expertly made taco. Embracing a kilometre zero philosophy, Flora serves dishes inspired by flowers and nature, combined with the best Mexican flavours. Meanwhile, the adult-only Sal Steak Cave prepares seasoned cuts of the finest meat, grilled in the Josper, Rodizio, Argentine and American styles. Dining here is at an extra charge but it’s a carnivore’s delight.

Coffee, cakes, paninis and cookies are served any time of the day at Coffee Corner by Nespresso, plus you have an on-site ice cream shop. Scoop up a wide variety of flavours at Twe12lvet, crafted by artisans.

To quench your thirst, paddle over to Bar Swim-Up for a refreshing drink or sip a coconut cocktail at Cocos Bar – it’s located next to the ocean and is a perfect feet-in-the-sand option. As the sun sets, stroll over to Kanna. It’s a stunning open-sided bar, with double cushioned cabanas available to fully relax. Choose a crisp glass of wine from the wine cellar at Blue Agave Bar or head over to North Avenue Bar, where live music sets are guaranteed to get you dancing.
