Host to two Winter Olympic Games, Innsbruck is a haven for winter sports lovers. Nine ski areas provide varied terrain for all levels of skiers. Each is served by a free shuttle bus service from the city.
Innsbruck’s proximity to guaranteed, year-round, snow at Stubai and Hinterlux glaciers make this a superb destination for skiing in Austria. More than a ski resort, Innsbruck is a fascinating and vibrant destination with a great history. Be sure to enjoy the cultural best of this 800-year-old city, such as the famous Golden Roof, Ambras Castle, palaces, theatres, opera houses, museums and great dining possibilities.
The sheer number of slopes, easily accessible from Innsbruck, makes it a great destination for all levels of skier. Innsbruck-Inglis, just six kilometres from central Innsbruck, is a good starting point for beginners.
The Stubai Glacier, just 20 minutes South of Innsbruck, offers a great variety of slopes. Over 100 ski-able kilometres are open all year. Generally the pistes here are wide, long and gentle, allowing for many enjoyable days of intermediate skiing.
Advanced skiing around Innsbruck is limited but challenging. Nordpark, also called Seegrube, can be accessed via an underground transit system and is a favourite choice with locals. Extremely steep ski terrain awaits the adventurous. More off-piste skiing can be enjoyed at Axamer Lizum.
At Stubai Glacier's Ski Club Mickey Mouse, children as young as 4 can enjoy fun ski lessons. Children from 3 years old, who don't yet ski, can be looked after in the Ski Club Mickey Mouse Play Paradise. All children can have lunch at the Clubhouse. Meanwhile, parents are free to have a great day of skiing on the slopes of Stubai.
The nightlife in Innsbruck centre is not traditional apres ski, however Innsbruck is a cosmopolitan city with a vast choice of entertainment to choose from. Innsbruck Old Town has a great choice of restaurants and bars, offering excellent food and drink at reasonable prices. Rooftop bars, such as Segafredo Sky, offer stunning views and the Innsbruck Casino is a worthy visit for a spot of elegant gaming.
