Soak up the history and charm of Prague

A compact city with lots to offer - you won’t be disappointed by the huge range of things to do in Prague. The centre itself is easily explored by foot - although a trip through Prague on board a historical tram, may prove too tempting to ignore.

Start at Hradcany Castle – more a district than a palace, it includes St Vitus Cathedral – added to over six hundred years, and Zulata Ulicka (Golden Lane) – a row of tiny 16th century cottages transformed into eclectic shops. Move down to the river-level sights: the 500-year-old astronomical clock in Old Town Square, the Gothic spires of Týn Church, and Týl Theatre, where Mozart’s Don Giovanni premiered. Once the sights have been ticked off, soak up the summer sun along the river or browse the beautiful Christmas markets when Prague transforms into a winter wonderland.

Sightseeing in Prague

Visit the ancient wonder of Prague Castle and enjoy its stunning panoramic views below. Watch the changing of the guards and explore the St Vitus Cathedral or take the funicular railway up Petrin Hill to climb its Eiffel Tower replica. Walk along Charles Bridge for incredible views of the city – we’d recommend soaking up the atmosphere at dusk.

Cultural Prague.

Cultural Prague

The National Museum houses fascinating artefacts in the pantheon, mineralogy, zoology, archaeology and anthropology galleries. To see one of Prague’s most extensive art collections visit The Centre for Modern & Contemporary Art. The Museum of Decorative Arts has an enviable catalogue of over 250,000 decorations from the 16th to early 20th century. Try and catch a performance at the National Theatre, housed in one of Prague’s most eye-catching buildings.

Shopping in Prague

Shopping in Prague

The area around Wenceslas Square offers the biggest draw for shopping. You are sure to find everything you’re looking for in the Palladium Shopping Centre, with over 200 shops to choose from. Head to Prague's most fashionable and luxurious street – Parizska Street, for high-end shopping. Designer brand names such as Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Hugo Boss and Christian Dior all compete for attention. However, the fun really begins when you start to browse the market stalls around Old Town Square – pick up Bohemian crystal and traditional arts and crafts, such as Russian nesting dolls.

Christmas Markets.

Christmas Markets

In the winter months Prague transforms into a picture-perfect ‘winter wonderland’, which creates the ideal backdrop for Christmas markets. As the snow starts to settle - soak up the atmosphere, browse the stalls, enjoy hearty food and mulled wine, and listen to Christmas carols. The main markets are open daily and are held in the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. We also recommend visiting the quieter markets at Republic Square and Havel’s Market.

Urban Beaches.

Urban Beaches

In the summer months Prague turns into a metropolitan oasis. Every year, tonnes of sand and hundreds of deck chairs are imported to the banks of the Vltava river to create this urban beach experience. Join in with a game of beach volleyball or ping pong, or spend time in the playground with your kids. Relax in the floating pool, find a spare hammock or choose a spot under a parasol to soak up the sunshine.

Food.

Dining out in Prague

Prague may not boast the ‘foodie’ status of other European cities, but you’ll find plenty of eateries that serve both Czech and International cuisine. Embrace the grand café culture of times past at the famous Café Imperial in the Imperial Hotel. Sample fine dining at Michelin-starred restaurant, The Alcron, at the Radisson Blu Alcron or soak up the views at Zlata Praha, a rooftop restaurant at the Intercontinental Prague which offers cutting-edge gastronomy and magnificent city views.
