Holidays in Lyon
Holidays in Lyon are a great way to explore France’s culture in a more relaxing setting than Paris. The city contains ancient Roman ruins, views of its red-topped buildings from the Fourvière hilltop and grand 18th-century squares such as Place Bellecour and Place des Terreaux.
The narrow streets of Vieux Lyon are one of the largest Renaissance quarters in Europe, while the steep traboule passageways of the Croix-Rousse area form an intriguing, still partly hidden warren. The city’s excellent food is everywhere, whether in the traditional bouchon restaurants around the Rue de l'Arbre-Sec in Croix-Rousse, or in the superb Halle de Lyon market selling local farm produce. Lyon Holidays are also a great starting point for exploring eastern France. The mountains of the Massif Central, the medieval town of Pérouges and the steep vineyards of the Northern Rhone are all within an hour’s drive of the city. Within two hours, you can be in the high Alps, the vineyards of Burgundy, the old mountain town of Annecy or on the shores of Lake Geneva.
