Think of Paris and what comes to mind? The majestic Eiffel Tower against a sapphire sky? Romantic boat trips on the Seine? Fashionable folks enjoying coffee and croissants at a chic café? Well, Paris has all of this and much more…

The aptly-nicknamed ‘City of Light’ is a shining beacon of style, culture and culinary invention. Explore the eclectic areas of this captivating city on Paris holidays. Stroll down the famous Champs-Élysées, stopping to take in the iconic Arc de Triomphe and stunning Notre-Dame Cathedral. See the enigmatic smile of the Mona Lisa at the Louvre and priceless Picassos at the Pompidou Centre. Indulge in luxury shopping at the world-class Galeries Lafayette department store or browse for bargains at a flea market. In the evening, dine on exquisite French cuisine at a Michelin-starred restaurant or sip champagne at a trendy rooftop bar while gazing at the glittering lights of the Eiffel Tower.

What's on in Paris over the next few months

As the winter days get crisper and shorter, Paris becomes the ideal place to find a great café and keep warm. December welcomes Christmas markets and ice skating rinks, concluding with spectacular New Year’s Eve celebrations. Then in January, sales galore entice bargain hunters to the French Capital. The City of Light becomes the city of love in February, with Valentine’s Day taking over.

Grab your tickets to see the Queen of Pop, Madonna, when the European leg of her Rebel Heart world tour arrives in Paris on 10 December. Then catch superstar DJ David Guetta spinning his multi-platinum-selling sounds on 18 and 19 December. Both at Paris’ Bercy Arena. For the quintessential Parisian Christmas experience, get your skates on (literally) and join the crowds taking to the vast ice rink outside the beautiful Hôtel de Ville, which traditionally takes place mid-December. On New Year’s Eve, the Champs-Elysées is quite simply the place to be. Whether you prefer to join the hordes of revellers in the street or to enjoy a quiet meal at a restaurant with a view – the illuminated Eiffel Tower against a backdrop of exploding fireworks is a stunning spectacle not to be missed.

Mode a paris.

On 7 January virtually every store in Paris kicks off their Les Mega Soldes ‘big sales’. So if you’re visiting the city in the New Year, make sure you take advantage of these great savings. As the month goes on, the discounts increase, with some shops offering up to 70% off come the last day (10 February). Then the fashionistas will be in town for Paris Fashion Week, which runs from 20 January. Although you can’t buy tickets to attend the fashion shows, the trendy bars around the Carrousel du Louvre are great for people-watching and perhaps a celebrity sighting. Throughout January, you’ll also be treated to classical music concerts at historic churches and cathedrals throughout the city. Popular concerts are held throughout Paris at Saint Ephrem, La Madeleine, Saint Germain-des-Prés and even on a boat on the Seine River.

Pop art.

The start of the month is the last chance to see Warhol: Unlimited at the Musée d’Art Moderne, which finishes on the 7 February. In this show, the pop art maestro’s Shadows series is shown in its entirety for the first time in Europe. Highlighting the serial aspects of his work, this is a show not to be missed. Romance is in the air as Paris comes alive with couples for Valentine’s Day on the 14 February. Following this, the cutesy kitsch Hello Kitty Live takes place on 20 and 21 February, which is syrupy fun for all the family at Le Grand Rex. And finally, at the Opera Bastille throughout February you can see Rossini’s world-famous The Barber of Seville in a superb adaption by the Paris Opera.
