The pure life of Costa Rica

Costa Ricans (Ticos) live by the epithet of ‘pura vida’, a belief that life is wonderful and to be enjoyed. They respect each other, but more, they respect the paradise in which they live. From the smallest animals to the largest volcanos.

A quarter of the land in Costa Rica is protected, and 5% of the entire world’s biodiversity can be found in this relatively small country. That is more than Europe and USA combined. You’ll find caiman in the mangrove swamps, howler monkeys call out from the tree tops, and endangered leatherback turtles nest on protected beaches near Nicoya. Hike up volcanic peaks and trek through the forbidding jungle, or go surfing at some of the best spots in Central America. Costa Rica offers more than the average holiday, with adrenalin-pumping sports in abundance. Go zip-lining through the upper-canopy or rafting down choppy, wild rivers. Get some civilisation at the end of your journey and head into the capital city San José, where great nightlife and delicious but simple food entice the weary traveller.
