Malaga

Often seen as a gateway to the popular areas of the Costa del Sol and Andalucía. And it’s easy to see why with stunning mountain ranges to the north, Mediterranean beaches to the south, and a scattering of whitewashed villages and golf courses to allure. Yet, Malaga should not be overlooked.

Immerse yourself in the history and culture of Malaga – one of the world’s oldest cities and the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. Europe’s southernmost city is overflowing with stunning architecture and museums showcasing Malaga’s rich past. Stroll through the cobbled streets and little chinitas, where local bars and restaurants vie for your attention. Be tempted by a delicious tapeo and then another -– try some pescito frito (fried fish) or some barbecued sardines, washed down with an aperativo. A glass of sweet Malaga wine, chilled with ice, is often the perfect accompaniment. Then find an Abyssinia, where you can listen to live music and while the night away.

Andalucian villages of Mijas, Nerja and Frigliana

The whitewashed villages of Mijas and Nerja are dotted around the mountains, valleys and waterfronts along the coast, offering water sports, quaint atmospheres with picturesque views, and miles of sandy beaches. Nerja is flanked by a dramatic mountain range. Admire stunning views from Sierra Almijara, then visit the 'prettiest village in Andalucia' – Frigiliana, also important from an historical viewpoint as it was the scene of the final defeat of the Moors during their rebellion.

Estepona

Estepona

This beach resort, known as ‘the old town’, is located halfway along the coast between Malaga and Gibraltar. Some of our upmarket exclusive hotels are located here, including the Kempinski Hotel Bahia. The numerous street cafes and tapas bars still serve traditional Spanish delicacies and the steep, cobbled, narrow streets seem more suited to horses than cars. You will also find unusual shops and bodegas here. This has all of the original character and is less touristy than other surrounding areas.

Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola

Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola

Relax on beaches, promenades and in the many bars and restaurants at these beach resorts. Torremolinos was one of the first resorts to be developed from a quaint fishing village. Sample original fish bars, boutiques and gift shops. Benalmadena offers an award-winning marina and multi-cultural restaurants, popular with British people. Fuengirola offers up-market tapas bars and restaurants, surrounded by chic boutiques and other shops, as well as fabulous beaches. Or try horse riding at the Rancho El Rengo.
