Attractions and distractions in Ibiza

Ibiza may be known as a place to party, but in the last few years a definite shift toward a less hedonistic atmosphere has taken place. With the island’s beautiful coves, the recent ‘foodie’ explosion, and relaxing retreats on offer, Ibiza has it all.

Discover its natural wonders, from sweeping golden beaches to lush green forests. The food and drink scene has evolved with the times, with top chefs now coming to Ibiza in the summer months. Even shopping, which Ibiza is not known for, is prevalent - this is a cosmopolitan island after all. Yoga retreats and relaxing spas are also high on the list of modern Ibizan life.

Bar.

Nightlife and clubbing

Ibiza is well known as a haven for the clubber. No mistake, it has more bars than you could possibly visit, and the world's greatest clubs. For example, in Playa d'en Bossa alone, there are eight super-clubs, including the infamous Sankey's and Ibiza Rocks. Don’t just party in the evening, there are party boats offering tours around the island during the day. Even inland, you can find fantastic bars – like the beautiful Kilometro Cinco (Km5) – serving until the early hours.

Beach.

Explore the island’s beaches

Offering some of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean. Explore its secluded coves and picturesque bays, or long stretches of golden sand and turquoise sea. You will find the best beaches around Portinatxh, San Jose and Santa Eulalia. For a stunning protected cove, visit Cala Salada, 15 minutes away from San Antonio, where you can swim in crystal clear water. The beaches around the cities tend to be busier, so it is worth taking the time to find a good spot.

Shopping.

Laid back shopping

Ibiza isn’t acknowledged for its shopping, but there are no lack of shops, boutiques and markets all over the island. The famous ‘hippy’ markets are excellent for browsing, especially the Punta Arabì, in Es Cana, held each Wednesday. The stores and boutiques of the cities, like Santa Eulalia or Ibiza Town, are great for stylish clothing, crafts and interior design. Be warned though, a lot of the shops are small so take cash, and opening times will vary.

Food.

Ibiza’s gourmet food

The last decade has seen Ibiza become a foodie fantasy, with many amazing restaurants popping up all over the island. Try traditional Spanish food and Ibizan cuisine, or fusion fare in chic Playa d’en Bossa. Ibiza is embracing the food scene the same way it likes to party. Fish and seafood is still the mainstay, freshly caught every morning. For the best fish, get it from the beach bars and food stalls that are in abundance along the coastline.

A man and women.

Retreat and relax

Take a trip to a spa hotel, or try some yoga. There are many hotels offering relaxing counterparts to the party culture. Retreat to the hills to stay in a vineyard, or take long walks in the lush farmland. Not everything on Ibiza revolves around decadence. The Hacienda Na Xamena offers panoramic views, in a heated saltwater pool, overlooking a cliff. You can go on horse treks in the north of the island, through dense forest and along unspoilt beaches.
