Approximately a two hour drive from Dalaman, Marmaris is one of the region’s most popular resorts. If you’re staying in this vibrant area you won’t be short of things to do. By day immerse yourself in the busy beach scene and vibrant bazaar shopping. Then after dark embrace the famous nightlife, as you’re greeted by an abundance of restaurants, bars and outdoor clubs.
An hour from Dalaman is the fishing village of Fethitye. Absorb the splendour of the Lycian Coast en route and take advantage of the great location as you tour the inland countryside. You’ll be enchanted by the picturesque scenery as pine forests slope towards the idyllic coastline. An open-air museum, this ancient city is also bursting with history – where else would you find sarcophagus in the streets?
Easily accessed by car, Mugla, the regional capital is well worth a visit. Take a two hour trip and drive over the mountains to experience this authentic western Turkish town, which is reminiscent of a Turkey of times past. With a history that dates back to 3000 BC and old Greek and Turkish style housing – you’ll feel a million miles away from the popular tourist resorts.
Not far from Dalaman, you’ll find the beach of Sarigerme and the tiny village of Osmaniye – both provide an insight into Turkey’s tradition, culture and natural beauty. A small area, with so much to offer – the main street boasts boutiques, restaurants and bars. While the beautiful sandy beach offers water sports, sunbeds and a shaded picnic area. As a National Park Conservation Area, there is a small fee to enjoy the beach and its facilities.
Hisaronu is a popular hilltop resort – it may not have its own beach but it provides a cool and much-welcome retreat in the height of summer. A fast-growing area, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied day and night. And with the spectacular beach of Olu Deniz just a short drive away – as well as the ghost town of Kayakoy, having a car will make the sightseeing opportunities endless.
