Is Bordeaux cheap to visit?

While Bordeaux isn’t known for being especially cheap, you’ll find greater value for money here than in Paris or the French Riviera. With a huge range of wine bars and restaurants on offer, there’s something to match every budget.

You can save by shopping at the local food markets and heading to one of the local parks, like the popular Jardin Public, for a picnic. There’s also free entry to many of the city’s museums if you happen to be visiting on the first Sunday of the month.

Is it easy to get around Bordeaux?

It’s easy to get from Bordeaux’s airport to the city centre. There’s an airport shuttle bus, leaving from the terminal building and arriving at Bordeaux Gare Saint Jean railway station in just 30 minutes. You can also hop on a tram from outside the airport. It takes a little longer but transfers on to other trams or buses are free for up to an hour. There are plenty of taxis waiting at the airport too, for a straightforward journey to your hotel.

Once you’ve arrived, navigating the city by foot or bike is a pleasant way to see the sights.

You can also hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what the Bordeaux region has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Why visit Bordeaux?

As the wine capital of France, there’s no better city break for connoisseurs. Make time to visit La Cite du Vin, a permanent wine exhibition housed in a shimmering gold building on the banks of the river, where you can learn more about the art and history of winemaking.

For something a little different, head over the river to Darwin in the Bastide district. Visitors flock to this former army barracks for its buzzy atmosphere and cool, industrial edge. Here you can go for a stroll to see the colourful street art, watch the skaters, shop at France’s largest organic shop and stop for a beer in the local brewery.
