    The British Airways A380 will take to the skies for its first long haul flight tomorrow (Tuesday 24 September) on the BA269 to Los Angeles at 4.15pm. It will be the first and only A380 aircraft to operate between London and Los Angeles. To mark the launch of the new service, passengers in Terminal 5 had to double take, as George Clooney, Angelina Jolie and Daniel Craig look-a-likes checked in early for the flight.

  • Partners and Parents top the polls for home welcomers

    When the holiday is over, one of the few comforts of returning home is the familiar face to greet you at the airport. In a poll of 2,000 people, British Airways found that nearly half of us (48 per cent) prefer to be greeted by our partner upon arriving home, followed by our mums (18 per cent), best friend (seven per cent) and finally… our dads (six per cent). However, being a nation of pet lovers, it’s no surprise that two per cent of those surveyed would like to be greeted by their beloved dog or cat at the airport! The research also highlighted the gap between mums and dads when it came to their children leaving the nest.

It includes 96 different roles, across 18 different departments, using over 11 external suppliers in the process. The figures rise to 107 roles for premium customers – which can include the additional benefits of fast track boarding, lounge access and personal meet and greets.

    British Airways’ latest ‘To Fly. To Serve’ advertising campaign, will be unveiled during the ‘England versus Moldova’ World Cup qualifier on ITV, Friday 6 September. The TV advert follows a customer journey using a ‘micro to macro’ style of filming, the footage shows close up shots of the intimate details of flying, panning to wide shots of the aircraft in motion. It draws contrasts between them both, showing the care and thought that goes into every part of their journey. The end frame poignantly shows the British Airways logo being stitched into fabric, with the voiceover commenting ‘To Fly. To Serve. Today. Tomorrow.’

  • British Airways Shows Austin Prowess

    British Airways is to be the only airline to offer direct flights from London to Austin in Texas from 2014. Starting in early March 2014 with five flights a week before moving to daily flights on May 5, the airline’s brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner with its three-cabin layout, will serve the route to the Texan capital. Austin is now featuring in the British Airways sale, which runs until September 24, with prices starting from £3,609 in Club World (business class), £891 return in World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and £511 return in World Traveller (economy).

  • British Airways helps school leavers soar

    As hundreds of thousands of students receive their GCSE results, British Airways is offering more opportunities for school leavers than ever before. The airline has recruited almost 200 apprentices in the past year, with similar numbers planned for 2014 and beyond. Since British Airways reintroduced its Heathrow Engineering apprenticeship schemes in 2010, almost 350 apprentices have been recruited.

  • British Airways’ First A380 Arrives at Heathrow Home

    Super-jumbo aviation arrives in the UK today with the delivery to Heathrow of British Airways’ first A380. The airline is the first UK carrier to take delivery of the double-decker, which is the world’s largest commercial jet. British Airways is also the first airline in Europe to operate both the A380 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the first two of which landed at Heathrow last week.
