A city for all seasons

For a coastal city break that spills out into island hopping in the summer months, to a historical city tour with plenty of spa time in the quieter seasons, Dubrovnik holidays are appealing all year round.

February commemorates the patron of the city, Saint Blaise, the summer buzzes with over a month of festivals whilst spring and autumn have ambient sunshine. Dubrovnik is a Baroque city that once enjoyed rivalling Venice on the seas as a trading capital. Enter the arched gate and at once you’re in an ancient place. Recent inspiration for hit fantasy show Game of Thrones, Dubrovnik has its own history that doesn’t need television dragons to jazz it up.

Multicentre Croatia holidays from Dubrovnik

Extend your holiday so it sprawls out and hogs the whole coast.

Dubrovnik – Split.

In the Summer, use British Airways to plan an adventure on the Dalmatian coast. Combine biweekly flights to Split with regular Dubrovnik flights and explore two historical cities that are twin gems of south Croatia. Hire a car to make the half-day trip along the scenic coast road. It takes you through Bosnia and Herzegovina along the Neum Corridor. You can also take a good bus service along the route. Capture the feel of two different walled cities like a conquering monarch, staying at your pick of hotels.

Dubrovnik – Elafiti Islands.

Šipan, Koločep and Lopud are a strand of islands connected by a ferry to the city. They stretch out, waiting for you to extend your Dubrovnik holiday. Close enough to make a day trip, for a true escape you can stay overnight among scattered stone churches, olive groves and fig trees. Stay on Šipan, the largest or on Lopud with its hike to famously beautiful Sunj Beach. Lafodia Hotel and Resort has a private speedboat shuttle from Dubrovnik so you can beat a hasty retreat.

Dubrovnik – Montenegro.

Drive south, passing through Bosnia and Herzegovina to visit the municipality of Montenegro, famed for its dramatic scenery and yachting life. Take the inland road to avoid the ferry and then swoop towards Montenegro’s slim and glamourous slice of coastline. Stay in the coastal town of Budva at the Regent Porto Montenegro, enjoy buzzy resort life in a settlement as old as the Ancient Greeks and hike the mountains on your doorstep.
