London Heathrow Terminal 1

London Heathrow Terminal 1 Departures.

Whether you’re departing, arriving, connecting or want to know how to get to and from Terminal 1, you will find all the information you need to enjoy an easier journey through London Heathrow airport on this page. Maps to help you find your way around the airport are available on the Heathrow website.

British Airways flights also operate to and from Heathrow Terminal 3 and Terminal 5, as well as London City and London Gatwick airports. Check which London airport and terminal your British Airways flight will depart from or arrive into.

Departures

The following times must be met to ensure you do not miss your flight:

  • Check in no later than 45 minutes before your flight departs
  • Enter Security at least 35 minutes before your flight departs
  • Be at the boarding gate at least 20 minutes before your flight departs

You must check in no later than 45 minutes before your flight departs.

You can check in online 24 hours before your flight departs:

  • Check in and print your boarding pass at ba.com
  • Check in and download your boarding pass using the BA Mobile App

Check-in desks and self-service kiosks are also available for check-in at the airport.

  • If you are travelling in a group of more than 9 people, you will need to check in at a self-service kiosk or check-in desk.
  • If your child is travelling alone, or with you but on a separate booking, you will need to go to a check-in desk.

If you check in at the airport, the information screens will tell you which zone you can use for your flight.

A dedicated check-in area is available to:

  • Customers travelling in Club World or Club Europe
  • Executive Club Gold, Silver and Bronze Members
  • oneworld Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby members

Once you have checked in, please use the self-service kiosks at the airport to print your baggage tags and attach them to your checked baggage before dropping them at the desks. The Bag Drop desks open three hours before departure and close 45 minutes before departure.

You must enter airport security at least 35 minutes before your flight departs.

Fast Track security lanes are available to:

  • Customers travelling in Club World or Club Europe
  • Executive Club Gold and Silver Members (plus one guest)
  • oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members

Gate information at Heathrow airport becomes available shortly before the flight opens. Please check the information screens at regular intervals and make sure that you are at the gate no later than 20 minutes before the flight departs.

Your time at the airport

There are lots of things to do at the airport before your flight departs. Whether it’s duty free shopping, relaxing in the lounges, picking up last minute essentials or catching up on emails using the free Wi-Fi you can certainly make the most of your time.

Terminal 1 also offers a range of family services and facilities, including a dedicated play area, which opens daily between 06:00 – 21:00 and can be found near Caffè Nero.

The International Lounge is available for British Airways customers travelling through Terminal 1.

Priority boarding is available to families with small children and customers requiring special assistance.

Arrivals

London Heathrow is a large airport and for international flights it usually takes about 40 minutes to get to the Arrivals hall.

  • If you require additional support when leaving the aircraft, we will try to let you disembark as soon as possible but for safety reasons this could take up to 20 minutes.
  • If your wheelchair is in the hold, we will make every effort to return it to you as close to the aircraft door as we can. If that’s not possible, we will make sure there is a wheelchair available to assist you to the baggage reclaim area.

Once you have disembarked from the aircraft and are in the terminal building you will need to pass through passport control.

After passport control, follow the yellow signs for 'Arrivals/Baggage reclaim' and look for your flight on the information screens to see which carousel your bags will arrive on.

Once you have your baggage, you may need to pass through customs. More information on allowances and restrictions can be found on posters in the Arrivals hall. For more detailed information before you travel, please see the GOV.UK website.

If you're travelling in Club World or are an Executive Club Gold Member arriving on a long haul flight you can use the Galleries Arrivals lounge in Terminal 5. You can travel there for free using the Heathrow Express train in approximately 20 minutes.

The lounge is open 05:00 – 14:00 and located on the first floor of Terminal 5. You can reach it using the green lifts.

If you are coming to the airport by car, exit the M4 (junction 4) or M25 (junction 15) and follow the signs for 'Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 and 3'. The postcode for satellite navigation is: TW6 1QG. If you are meeting someone from an arriving flight you must use the Short Stay Car Park or if you are bringing someone to the airport follow the signs for 'Departures' and use the outside lane to drop them off.

Special assistance

If you need additional help for your journey, e.g. for getting through the airport, boarding the aircraft, or reaching your onward travel connections, please let us know at least 48 hours before you travel through Manage My Booking and we can arrange this for you.
