It makes an easy daytrip and is a fantastic place where you can swim, hike, cycle or simply enjoy a drink in a Bavarian beer garden. The area around Lake Starnberg is the wealthiest community around Munich and one of the richest in Germany, with a rich history of nobility around the Lake.
Outstanding Alpine scenery via Oberammergau, world famous for its Passion Play. Garmish-Patenkirchen is a famous alpine sports destination, both for winter and summer. Located at the foot of Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze. The rack railway train to the top of the Zugspitze leaves regularly from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway station. The two areas was merged in order to host the 1936 Olympic Games in Germany, and it is still popular for sports, including some of Germany’s best skiing.
Enjoy the mountain scenery via Chiemsee Bavaria, a large Lake with a castle on an island. Or go via Bad Reichenhall, a lovely Spa town. Salzburg is home to ‘The Sound of Music’ and also the home of Mozart. A good tip is to fill up with petrol in Austria where it is 20% cheaper. Don’t forget to buy a Vingette (tax) sticker when entering Austria. This picturesque city is home to Schloss Hellbrunn, with its pretty fountains and gardens.
From Augsburg you can pick up the iconic driving route lined with beautiful castles and stunning scenery, including the three medieval walled towns of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen, which is set in a meteorite crater surrounded by a 14th century wall. Finish in the historic city of Würzburg, home to Würzburg Residence, one of the finest palaces in Europe and a member of the UNESCO World Heritage list. There are also various old and beautiful churches.
