With rich history, a great cultural scene and lively nightlife on offer, there’s something to keep every kind of visitor entertained.

Frankfurt flight FAQs

How long is a flight to Frankfurt?

Flights from London City and Heathrow Airports to Frankfurt Airport take around an hour and 40 minutes.

What's the cheapest month to fly to Frankfurt?

Flights are often cheaper between London and Frankfurt in spring and autumn, as many visitors choose to visit in summer when it’s warm, or in winter when the Christmas markets are in full swing.

Is Frankfurt cheap to visit?

Many of Frankfurt’s hotels and restaurants cater to business travellers, but there are plenty of ways to ensure your trip is great value. If you’re planning on visiting the many museums and galleries, buying a MuseumsuferTicket might save you money, as it grants you entry to 38 of Frankfurt’s museums for two days.

Get acquainted with Frankfurt’s main sights on one of the many walking tours. They’re a great way to see the sights, and apart from a tip for your tour guide, they’re free to join.

Dining out can be pricey, so skip the formal reservations on a Friday and head to the Schiller Street Weekly Market in the city centre. You can shop for fresh produce and try out the local specialities with a beer.

Is it easy to get around Frankfurt?

It’s easy to reach the city centre from Frankfurt Airport. The Regionalbahnhof, which is the train station for local journeys, is at Terminal 1. From here, the journey to Frankfurt Central Station takes around 15 minutes. You can also hop on high-speed trains to major cities across Germany.

There are plenty of taxis waiting at the terminals too. You’ll reach the city in 20 to 30 minutes.

While public transport in Frankfurt’s city centre is quick and reliable, it’s a walkable city and you can discover its charms on foot. For slightly longer journeys, the U-Bahn – the local underground network – trams and local buses connect the city centre to all the local attractions.

You can hire a car with British Airways if you want to see more of what Frankfurt has to offer. You’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Why visit Frankfurt?

Frankfurt is a great choice for a German city break at any time of year. Come during the summer when locals and visitors flock to the banks of the River Main for picnics, drinks and scenic views. In winter, you can escape the cold in the city’s traditional cider taverns and shop for local handicrafts at the traditional Christmas markets. Frankfurt’s Christmas market, which is one of the largest in Germany, takes over Romerberg and St Paul’s Square with its picture-perfect stalls that open from morning till night.

Do I need a visa for Germany?

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit Germany. If you hold a passport from a country or territory outside of these areas, you may need to apply for a visa before you travel. You can find out more about visa requirements for all the countries we fly to at the IATA Travel Centre.
