Overview

Anse Chastanet is a one-of-a-kind resort, nestled within a private tropical estate overlooking St Lucia’s iconic Petit and Gros Pitons. The resort fully embodies its natural surroundings, providing access to two soft sand beaches and protected bays with colourful coral reefs. Appealing to couples and solo travellers, the resort boasts a beach-level spa, a scuba diving centre and an excellent array of dining venues – which include vegan and vegetarian options. During your stay, you can join numerous outdoor staff-led activities, including non-motorised water sports, guided hikes, yoga classes and visits to the hotel’s organic farm in the Soufriere hills.

Set on a 600-acre estate on St Lucia’s southwestern coast, Anse Chastanet stretches across two emerald valleys. The resort cascades down the lush hillside towards Anse Chastanet Beach, while the smaller Anse Mamin Beach can be reached via complimentary boat ride. The estate encompasses a historical 18th-century plantation and the Emerald Estate organic farm, where most of the restaurant ingredients are produced. Since the hotel sits in the heart of St Lucia’s protected marine reserve, you can easily access some of the island’s most impressive diving sites. You’ll also be well-placed to visit Soufriere's walk-in volcano, sulphur springs, botanical gardens and waterfall. Hewanorra International Airport is around 23 miles away, or roughly an hour’s car journey from the resort.

The resort's individually designed rooms are spacious and feature handmade furniture crafted from the island's wood, and soft cotton furnishings made from St Lucia’s national cloth, known as madras. Colourful bathrobes are also crafted locally, making them popular souvenir items to purchase on site. Most rooms are dotted about the lush hillside, offering captivating views of the sea and mountains, while some are nestled within tropical gardens at beach level. Each has a spacious bathroom and a private balcony or patio, so you can admire nature (rather than watching television, which is intentionally absent to enhance your sense of tranquillity). Some Premium Hillside rooms have a missing fourth wall, so you can fully admire breathtaking views across the Pitons and Caribbean Sea through a transparent mosquito net.

Other facilities

You won’t find a swimming pool at Anse Chastanet because you’re encouraged to swim in the calm crystal-clear waters along the Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin beaches. You can enjoy an array of complimentary non-motorised water sports at the main beach, including kayaking, Sunfish sailing and windsurfing. Alternatively, head to the scuba diving centre to experience outstanding snorkelling or diving trips around the offshore marine reserve, just metres from the water’s edge.

The resort staff organise yoga classes, visits to the organic farm and guided nature walks around the 600-acre estate. You can also explore the 12-mile-long forest trails on bike or on foot, play a game of tennis or go birdwatching among the ruins of the estate’s colonial plantation. Attend a weekly Creole history class in the Beach Bar and don’t miss the chocolate tasting at the Emerald Restaurant each week. A range of island excursions are also on offer at the on-site tour desk, including sunset cruises on the resort’s private yacht, Suzi Q.

Those looking to relax can simply recline on a beachside hammock or lounge on a sun bed under a palm-thatched umbrella. The homely Kai Belté Spa lies behind the beach, inviting you to indulge in a range of signature treatments with natural island products (all available for a supplement charge). You can also book select treatments in the Kai Mer spa at the nearby sister resort, Jade Mountain.

Dining information

Dining options include a fabulous vegetarian restaurant called Emerald's, a fine-dining Treehouse restaurant that’s tucked into the hillside – and Apsara, which specialises in Indian-Caribbean fusion cuisine. There are also two casual beachfront restaurants, Trou au Diable and Jungle Beach Grill, where you can enjoy light fare overlooking the Caribbean Sea. All restaurant kitchens at Anse Chastanet use organic ingredients from the hotel's own farm, and Emerald’s provides special vegan and vegetarian menus. You can order tropical cocktails at the Piton Bar and Beach Bar, and the Pinto Bar serves daily afternoon tea.

Additional information

The dress code in the evenings is smart casual. Gentlemen should wear collared shirts with tailored shorts or trousers in the evenings. At lunch, you’re expected to wear dry clothing in the beach restaurant and cover swimwear.
