Overview

Recif Attitude is an adult-only hotel in northwest Mauritius. It’s a good-value hotel, but you can’t put a price on its serene atmosphere and lovely location. Set on a pretty beach overlooking a marine reserve, it’s great for snorkelling – but relaxing and taking in the views above water should also be high on your agenda. With just 70 rooms, the property has a boutique feel, and it keeps things casual. This is the kind of hotel where you can ditch the shoes and sink into a beanbag at sunset with a happy hour cocktail.

Recif Attitude is set on a peaceful bay just 10km south of Grand Baie and north of Port Louis, on the relatively developed northwest coast of the island. This side of Mauritius has sheltered beaches, and Recif Attitude’s little stretch of sand is no different. Its west-facing position means you can catch the sunset over the sea every evening.

Guest rooms are simply furnished using a variation of black and white natural materials to create a relaxing stay. You will discover refillable glass jars for sugar, teas and coffees in an effort to ban single-use plastic. You can also visit the hotel’s Bulk Shop to fill your mini bar with local snacks like banana chips or pink salted peanuts. Choose a beachfront room and enjoy stunning Indian Ocean views.

The hotel itself is simple and friendly. White, low-lying sugar cube-style houses keep you cool on hot days, whilst a warm-as-a-bath infinity pool provides a sumptuous place to soak. Rooms are bright and airy, if a little basic. Upgrading to the beachfront rooms gets you views out over the ocean, which, after all, is what you’re here for. There is free Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel.

A member of the Green Attitude Foundation, this hotel aims to be sustainable and ecological in all it does. There’s a real emphasis on local culture here – reflected in the cuisine and the activities on offer. Dive into the local Mauritian way of life with the ‘Otentik’ programme of authentic experiences – book in for the Otenik Discovery for a self-guided adventure around the island. Spa Attitude, the hotel spa, keeps its focus local. Treatments use delicious natural products and essential oils. You can use its Hammam for free.

Dining information

Recif Attitude has four on-site restaurants. Tuck into authentic local and international buffet cuisine and themed table d'hote dinners at Pointe aux Piments. La Sirène serves snacks and refreshments during the day. While Taba-J, a Mauritian street food concept, is open for lunch and tea time. Enjoy fresh seafood with the sea lapping at your feet at a la carte restaurant L'Océan. There’s a sizzling beach barbecue on selected nights, but every evening you’ll find the bar the place to be: for a mojito whilst you watch the sun go down.
