Overview

The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives is a playful paradise offering the perfect blend of relaxation and fun. Each overwater or beachfront villa benefits from a lounge deck and plunge pool, as well as colourful décor and even a disco ball in the bathroom. Socialise by the main pool, with DJ tunes providing a soundtrack and tuck into a collection of cuisines from around the world at the resort’s handful of cool eateries.

Located on Huruvalhi Island, the resort is in Raa Atoll, known for its breathtaking diving and sailing spots. North of Male, it's approximately a 40-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport.

A selection of villas are settled on the sandy beachfront or perched on top of the lagoon or ocean – if you’re looking to dip into shallow waters, opt for a villa by the lagoon or choose an oceanside villa to be closer to the house reef. Two bedroom options are available too, accommodating families or groups. Each villa has its own deck with an infinity plunge pool, a disco-ball bathroom and an activity wall with snorkelling gear. You’ll also find cool white décor in each, enlivened with the odd pop of electric pink or mustard.

For something livelier, explore the Maldives’ iconic coastline with a selection of water sports, including snorkelling, wake boarding, kite surfing, jet skis and boat trips – and even a floating assault course in the summer months. Kids’ have their own fun facilities too at the Lil’ Shark Kids’ Club, they can visit with adult supervision or under supervision of a babysitter for an additional charge.

The Standard Spa offers a DIY spin on self-care, with a communal hammam, cypress aroma steam room and contrast plunge shower. It also plays host to a series of residencies from wellness experts, covering topics from Ayurveda to traditional Chinese medicine. Dining information

Open from morning until evening, Kula is an open-air restaurant with an open kitchen and buffet stations. Named after the Dhivehi word for ‘colours’, this bright setting also offers themed evenings, ranging from local cuisine to Indian, Mexican, Italian and Mongolian fusions. Also open throughout the day is Joos Café, which proffers smoothies, coffees and pastries, as well as snacks and light bites – alongside a library stocked with magazine and vintage books. When you’re spending sunny days by the pool, Todis Bar provides refreshments and shade.

In the evenings, Guduguda celebrates Maldivian cuisine, with local seafood focussed menus featuring coconut milk curries, fresh vegetables and spiced rice. Maldivian culture is also reflected in the restaurant’s décor, with low seating on floor cushions and a patio overlooking the stunning waters. On the beach, you can tuck into grilled seafood and meats on select nights of the week at BBQ Shak, topped with homemade sauces. There’s an adult-only bar too, serving dinner on select nights and cocktails daily, beside a see-through dance floor.
