Overview

Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino brings the brand’s trademark chic style to Greece’s Messenia area – one of the most unspoilt landscapes in the Mediterranean. Luxe accommodation, an indulgent spa, two pools and a beach club are just a few of many treats that await.

Positioned on a hillside overlooking Navarino Bay, the resort gently slopes down to a beach. It’s also roughly two miles from the historic town of Gialova, as well as its popular lagoon. Explore some ancient Greek history at the Old Navarino Fortress, four miles west, or at the Mycenaean Palace of Nestor archaeological site, dating back to the 13th Century BC, which is just over seven miles to the north. Kalamata International Airport is 25 miles away.

As you enter the resort lobby, you’ll still feel like you’re outside. Stone floors gently slope upwards to cradle olive trees, underneath a glass ceiling. Accommodation is tucked into the hillside, blending into the natural landscape and topped with ‘living’ roofs. Formed of local materials, all accommodation features a modern-rustic style, with limewashed walls, stone floors, contrasting wooden furniture and copper hardware in bathrooms. A choice of junior suites and villas are displayed here, overlooking the bay or pool from an indoor-outdoor living concept. Villas each feature a private pool, as well as generous three- and five-bedroom options.

Other facilities

Head down to the beach to find the resort’s beach club beside clear shores and a large pool. Closer to the main building, there’s an additional ‘tranquillity’ pool.

Incorporating healing philosophies from traditional Chinese medicine, Mandarin Oriental’s spas are a destination unto themselves. Here, 1500 m2 of calm features ten treatment rooms and three couple’s suites, each with an outdoor courtyard, hydrotherapy tub and a hammam. The spa also has an indoor-outdoor pool, a panorama barrel sauna, herbal sauna, cold plunge bath, foot bath, mineral steam bath, floral steam bath and a wooden Japanese hot tub. Plus, there’s an indoor-outdoor relaxation area with a fireplace, in addition to wellness programmes and a fitness centre with strength training and golf fitness programmes.

When you’re not soaking up the sun or pampering, experience the culture of Messenia with one of the resort’s many experiences. Find out why classical Greek playwright Euripides called this ‘the land of the good fruit’ by collecting seasonal vegetables from the resort gardens and enjoy mouth-watering meals outside. Or, learn how to distinguish the subtle flavours of Messenian extra virgin olive oil, and local wines.

Dining information

The Oliviera Restaurant serves two of your daily meals with panoramic views of the bay. You can expect a contemporary take on local Greek cuisine, with fresh ingredients from Messenia served for breakfast and dinner. There’s a private dining space here too, offering a fantastic way to celebrate a special occasion or even take part in a masterclass, with bespoke menus and wine pairings available. When you’re relaxing on the sands, visit the Ormos Beach Club for beachside eats. Pizzas, fresh salad and chilled cocktails are on the menu. As the sun sets and hunger strikes, the Pizza Sapienza by Daniele Cason provides a trip to Italy via the tastebuds. An a la carte menu features seasonally topped pizzas, as well as warm grissini and fresh focaccia. Inspired by the Levant, the Eastern Mediterranean region of Western Asia, Tahir Restaurant serves vegetarian meals with sustainably sourced ingredients, alongside wines from Israel, Lebanon, Turkey and Morocco. Journey to France at Brasserie de la Bay – overlooking the neighbouring golf greens and sea, it serves modern French cuisine, simply but masterfully executed.
