Crystal Cove by Elegant Hotels is a premium all-inclusive resort. Its dramatic clifftop setting means that village-style accommodation cascades downwards towards the sandy beach, offering spectacular Caribbean Sea views. Situated on Payne's Bay on the alluring west coast of Barbados, Crystal Cove is conveniently located to access Bridgetown in the south (under four and a half miles distance) and Holetown in the north (just under a three-mile walk) – which has a plethora of shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel itself backs onto a beautiful long stretch of white sandy beach with plenty of shady palms and casuarinas. Wander southwards up the beachfront for over 200 metres to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the island. Although Crystal Cove doesn’t have its own on-site golf facilities, tee times on the west coast are available at Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane Country Club, which can be arranged through the concierge. Grantley Adams International Airport is under 16 miles distance.
The 88 rooms and suites are spread across two low-rise floors which overlook the grounds and ocean, giving the hotel an intimate, cosy feel. Like the rest of the property, the room decor is light, airy and contemporary with fresh white bedding and cream-tiled flooring. Warm Caribbean hues are evident in the artwork and bed coverings, whilst furniture has a dark wood effect – which could be considered as slightly dated. Tasteful geometric rugs and circular egg chairs add a nice, modern touch. All rooms include a private balcony or terrace as well as iPod docking stations, mini-fridges and free Wi-Fi connection. Ocean View rooms and suites benefit from superior views overlooking the beachfront – suites are ideal for families since they are spaciously interconnected, and feature pull out sofa beds. One Bedroom Suites offer two bathrooms, a sofa bed and a separate bedroom and living space, or a loft suite with an upstairs bedroom which looks out over the living room.

Fun is easily found with the range of complimentary water sports available at Crystal Cove. This includes water skiing, banana boating, sailing and kayaking. Also take advantage of the on-site fitness centre and tennis courts. Children can create memories in the exciting outdoor play area or at the kids’ club which promotes fun supervised games and activities for all children aged between 3 and 12 years old.
After a fun-filled day, relax by the central pool area where you’ll find a landscaped rockery, tropical plants and mini waterfalls. Sip refreshing cocktails at the eponymous swim up Cave Bar or lounge at the poolside whilst making the most of the excellent service –friendly staff provide tempting fruit plates or cooling ice lollies to refresh your palate. You can easily unwind on the beach too, with staircase access which is located by the pool. Although there is not a spa complex on site, you can book an open-air massage on the idyllic oceanfront or book soothing treatments at Tamarind or The Waves Hotel & Spa – the hotel’s sister properties which are also on the west coast, each under a mile away respectively.
Dining information
Reflections is the main restaurant on the property. It offers a more formal, open-air dining experience with scenic views of the beach and pool landscapes. Here you’ll be greeted with generous buffet breakfasts and a la carte dinners which are inspired by Caribbean and Western flavours. Savour grilled steaks, sumptuous jerk chicken or vegetable curries whilst listening to gentle steel pan drums.
Drifters Beach Bar and Restaurant is a more casual affair where you can enjoy alfresco seaside dining – whether you fancy a buffet lunch, an a la carte dinner, or just a daytime snack. Specialising in Caribbean cuisine, you’ll find a fusion of flavours and spices. Try the Bajan fish cakes, pea and rice mix or freshly prepared grilled delicacies such as ribs, steaks and seafood.
The distinctive Cave Bar is the place to go for special sunset cocktails. Swim up to the bar though a waterfall or enter on foot. There’s also the beach bar which offers tropical mixes and icy drinks throughout the day. Vista Coffee and Wine Bar enjoys sea views and offers a selection of teas and sumptuous sandwiches, cakes and pastries.
