British Airways spends approximately £4bn per annum on the purchase of goods and services from external companies. Procurement is in a unique position to significantly influence BA's profitability through the effective management of this external cost base.
Procurement also has a key role to play in securing competitive advantage through leveraging the creativity and innovation of BA's suppliers to support the introduction of new products and technological advances. Increasingly, through outsourcing, BA is dependent on its suppliers to ensure business continuity and operational performance is maintained.
