Airport Operations

With our flying know how we deliver the right aircraft in the right place at the right time, with the right crew, ready to go.

Airport Operations is the focal point for all British Airways incoming and outgoing flights to and from the Heathrow and Gatwick Terminals.

It sounds simple, but when you consider we operate a fleet of over 300 aircraft making an average of 1,000 flights a day, to over 300 destinations worldwide, the scale of the challenge begins to emerge. As if that isn't complicated enough, there are numerous other factors to consider, from aircraft maintenance requirements to flight crew preferences. The teams within Operations Control find the solutions to resolve these issues and more on a daily basis.

Airport Operations

Approximately once a month each one of our 3,200 pilots and 14,000 cabin crew receive a schedule listing the routes they are rostered to fly over the next 30 days. Crew have to be allocated to aircraft, within this schedule specific aircraft have to be allocated to each flight. The flying programme is extensive and therefore is managed by a variety of teams within Operations, ensuring we keep our promises to our customers of honouring the published British Airways timetable.

Whilst providing 24hour cover, the team maintains and controls feasible crew plans to meet the demands of BA business whilst making optimum use of resources against a background of world-wide commercial, operational and legal constraints and complex and variable Crew agreements.

A dedicated and responsible team delivering our promises.
